The Daily Grind

13 radiation treatments down - 17 more to go.  I will officially be finished active treatment on May 5, which is four weeks today.  Can't wait.

Compared to chemotherapy, radiation is a breeze.  However, the side effects are starting to build up, so I might have a different opinion next week when things really start to accelerate.  So far, I have a nice pink glow on the entire left side of my chest, armpit, shoulder and neck.  It is warm under and on top of the skin but not uncomfortably so.  My shoulder is slightly stiff and sore, and my throat is scratchy (that might be from yelling at the dogs, though - hahaha).  My tummy gets a little bit upset after treatments but it is manageable. The biggest challenge in terms of current side effects is the accumulating fatigue.  I am basically a write-off the entire afternoon.

The other challenge is the daily trip to and from the cancer centre.  I am thankful that it is a relativity short trip - only about 35 minutes each way - and that Dave insists on taking me.  I doubt that I would be safe to drive at this point anyway, considering how spacy I feel after treatment. Most cancer patients find the daily appointments taxing, and I guess I am no different.

By way of a "hair" update:  It is starting to grow in earnest and is currently about 1/4" long and looks like a salt and pepper fuzzy halo.  And my eyebrows and eyelashes are growing in!  I no longer look like a get big bald baby.
