Ring-a-Ding-Ding!
Yesterday was a "top ten" day for me - I had my final chemotherapy treatment and got to ring the bell! It was a day that I had been looking forward to since day one of chemo.
It was far more emotional than I thought it would be. As soon as I told my assigned nursing team that it was my final treatment, I could feel the tears welling up. By the time my treatment was done and I rang the bell, I was practically bawling like a baby. I cannot begin to describe the relief that I feel now that that phase of my treatment plan is done.
Now I just have to deal with the side effects for the next week or so. Since this was my last treatment, I don't need the injection to increase my white blood cell count two days after chemo, so with any luck the bone and joint pain will be more manageable this time. Regardless, knowing that I won't have to go through it again already makes me feel better.
I get about a month to recover from chemo and then I start phase 3 of my treatment plan - 6 weeks of daily (Mon-Fri) radiation treatments. Compared to chemo, radiation is much more "pleasant" but does come with its own set of side effect - most notably fatigue and a bad sun burn. I figure by the end of the 6 weeks, I will be glowing in the dark!
You got this Pam!
