Goin' for the Gold!

In the spirit of the Olympic games, I have decided to invent my own event, named "After Chemo Hair Growth".  My four-year-old granddaughter has kindly offered to monitor my hair growth and let my know how I am doing in the medal standings! Not all of the hair on my head fell out during chemo.  Oddly enough, all of the grey hairs stubbornly stayed put. That, combined with very thinned out eyebrows and eyelashes, means I look like a big bald baby - lol.   Now that I am 2.5 weeks post-final chemo treatment, my hair should start growing back at any time over the next few weeks.  However, it feels like I might already have some fuzz growing along the nape of my neck.  Can't see any difference in the mirror yet, though. It will take about six months before my hair will be long enough to style. Ring-a-Ding-Ding!

Yesterday was a "top ten" day for me - I had my final chemotherapy treatment and got to ring the bell!  It was a day that I had been looking forward to since day one of chemo.   It was far more emotional than I thought it would be.  As soon as I told my assigned nursing team that it was my final treatment, I could feel the tears welling up.  By the time my treatment was done and I rang the bell, I was practically bawling like a baby.  I cannot begin to describe the relief that I feel now that that phase of my treatment plan is done. Now I just have to deal with the side effects for the next week or so.  Since this was my last treatment, I don't need the injection to increase my white blood cell count two days after chemo, so with any luck the bone and joint pain will be more manageable this time.  Regardless, knowing that I won't have to go through it again already makes me feel better.
